FILMVIEW has moved!!

03/03/08
We have moved into our new offices in Alexandria. The office and mezzanine space on the top floor of our complex will allow the extra space we need to increase the amount of VFX and graphic work that we are acquiring. We have been doing interactive motion graphic presentations for films and TV for 9 years and now we are offering the same service to the corporate events world. No longer will event presentations be the boring realm of Slide Shows! Interactive Hollywood style is the call from now on.

Also increasing is our VFX and post production services, with the mezzanine being dedicated to editing and compositing tools. The extra space allows for more seats for our After Effects, Shake and Interactive Programmers.

Don't forget the Video Split services however! Having just completed Wolverine 2nd Unit and motion control unit, the Video Split dept is moving ahead in leaps and bounds with masses of brand new equipment being sourced just for these units and Damon running 4 to 7 cameras every day he was on 2nd unit.

WOLVERINE is strongly rumored to be filming in Sydney

31/08/07
It has been confirmed, as much as it can be these days, that WOLVERINE will be shot at the Sydney Fox studios in 08. Starring Hugh Jackman and being directed by Gavin Hood, it will only be the 2nd major feature to shoot at Fox since Superman Returns, which ended in Nov 05. Certain HODs have already been selected in Australia and scripts issued. Following the shooting of "AUSTRALIA" at Fox currently, this could finally be the run of movies that Sydney has been lacking. Here's hoping that light stays green.

Video Split and Screen Graphics on Nim's Island Confirmed

02/07/07
Filmview has been asked to do a double role running the video split AND the Screen Graphics on the feature film "Nim's Island". Based on a childrens book, the film starts shooting at the end of July in Queensland. Not to worry if you are still requiring crew elsewhere though, Filmview can run up to 3 video split kits at once anywhere you need. Nim's Island will involve large amounts of on set chroma key and compositing as there are various animals involved that won't always be on set. Filmview is looking forward to this to get extra use out of compositing software that we carry standard in our kit.

Adidas Stinks in China - with Filmview

23/06/07
Filmview has been hired by UK company Stink (www.stink.tv) to do video split in Beijing for a month. The commercial, for Adidas, features some of China's top athletes and is aimed entirley at the asian market. Huge amounts of on set compositing, masking and chroma keying are needed to help simulate crowd scenes and simulate effects to be done in post. Filmview designed a special lightweight kit to do the job, accomodating the many moves of the unit and the hi processing power needed for the compositing.

So what’s in the Federal Budget cookie jar for film and TV…

31/05/07
Well first of all we get that tax cut that will give us all approx. $14 more a week in our pockets! Well THANKS Johnny, but how about managing the economy towards a rate cut instead buddy. 0.25% rate hikes make more than $14 difference to my mortgage.

That gripe of my chest I’ll get to the good parts…

10BA 10B tax break schemes are replaced by a 40% producer rebate for feature film productions with ’wide audience appeal’. You can only guess this means big budget jobs with big cinema releases. That’s a whopping bonus for our beleaguered industry, especially here in Sydney where things have really slowed down.

There is a 20% rebate for qualifying TV productions. Same same but different from the feature film one that hopefully should get some more local content on our small screens.

Both these rebates are coming into effect on July 01, 2007.

AFC, FFC, Film Australia merged into Australian Screen Authority (ASA) to come into effect in the 08-09 year.

Majority of the ASA resourcing will be on productions of national cultural significance which would be unlikely to attract the necessary private finance to proceed on the basis of the rebate alone – so Doco makers can still do what they do best.

Research and statistics function currently undertaken by the AFC will be transferred to the Australian Film, Television and Radio School (AFTRS) along with appropriate resourcing. But let’s hope they let some grown ups do it!

The Location Rebate increases the rebate from 12.5 per cent to 15 per cent and introduces a world-first complementary 15 per cent rebate on all expenditure on post production, digital and visual effects undertaken in Australia for projects valued over $5 million, and provides greater certainty about what production expenditures qualify for the rebate.

An improved Location Rebate should act as another attracter for offshore productions. Canada is currently walloping us by the fact that their rebate has been 15% for a while, they are closer and our dollar has shot up to over US$0.80. Their dollar is at approx US$0.92 but the ability to fly to LA on the weekend is a big draw card for those people in the decision making roles of those big US jobs.

So all in all it’s pretty good for film and TV. Not much mention of commercials per se, but there are a number of commercials that come from overseas to here that are over the $5m mark that might take advantage of the location rebate.

Here’s hoping.

New web page launches

23/05/07
We have finally launched our new webpage. Yay! It has a lot more information and pretty pictures than the last one. It will be growing beyond what it is right now and soon we will be adding a blog and other entertaining little things to it. There will be a monthly newsletter too, if we can find time to bang one out, but that will all depend on how busy we are. Welcome.

7 Camera HD Shoot Out

29/03/07
Filmview recently completed a flawless week long job involving 7 HD cameras moving rapidly and often around Circular Quay. The job, for British Airways, required some days of shooting and some days of footage review. Filmview was able to capture all the cameras and play it back for the Director on set as well as performing the task of offline edit for a highlights package on the review days. This package was then assembled and uploaded to the web for client review in London. Client, Agency and local production company were all extremely happy with the outcomes of our work.

No Fools Here

28/03/07
Filmview recently wrapped up the video split for Fools Gold 2nd Unit. This US$90m film shot all over Queensland sent the Filmview crew to such wonderful places as Port Douglas, Lizard Island, The Whitsundays, Lady Elliot Island and eventually the Gold Coast. Culminating in a 6 camera plane crash stunt, a wonderful but challenging working time was had by all doing lots of under water sequences, boat chasers, helicopter stunts. The job lasted a total of 14 weeks.
